Beginning next week, more extensive research and writing assistance will be available to graduate and advanced undergraduate students when the Graduate Writing & Research Center Center (GWRC) opens in Alden Library. The GWRC is a collaborative project of the Ohio University Writing Center, the Department of English and the Ohio University Libraries, whose Subject Librarians will provide research assistance for students. The Konneker Fund for Learning and Development and University College are supporting the new venture.
The GWRC supplements the services of the traditional writing center (which undergraduates should still use for regular academic assignments) by providing assistance for graduate students or advanced undergraduate students working on more in-depth writing projects. Projects might include theses or dissertations, journal articles, and grant or job application materials. Doctoral students from across campus will serve as tutors and offer appointments up to 90 minutes in length. In addition to writing support, the GWRC tutors will offer assistance with both quantitative and qualitative methods, refer students to a Subject Librarian for help finding and working with information sources, lead writing and research workshops, and facilitate graduate student writing groups. In addition to appointments, assistance will also be available on a walk-in basis.
All meetings will take place in the GWRC office (Alden 309). Visit their website for more information or to make an appointment (make sure to choose the GWRC schedule).
