On June 25, 2013 Dr. Elliot Shore, the new executive director of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) as of this year, is visiting Alden Library. Shore will be giving a talk at 2:00 pm in room 319, the Friends of the Libraries room, titled “Nineteenth Century Origins Collide with the 21st Century: The Research Library Conundrum.”
Dr. Shore is visiting Alden as a part of a tour of ARL member libraries. While in Ohio, he will also visit Case Western, Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati. The Association of Research Libraries is a 125-member non-profit organization that brings together research driven libraries in the United States and Canada who share common missions and ambitions. Ranked among the top 100 research libraries in North America, Ohio University Libraries is a proud member of this prestigious organization.
Before being appointed executive director, Dr. Shore served as a professor of history and the director of libraries at Bryn Mawr College, a women’s liberal arts college in Pennsylvania, which is ranked #26 of 178 rankings on US News’ national liberal arts college rankings.
“This will be a terrific opportunity to meet one of the national leaders in librarianship and to hear his thoughts on the future of research libraries,” said Dean Scott Seaman.
The talk will take place at 2:00 pm in the Friends of the Libraries room (319) on the third floor of Alden Library and is free to all. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
