A member of the Association for Research Libraries, the Ohio University Libraries are central to learning, teaching, and research activities of students and faculty. The main library on the Athens campus is Alden Library, located on the College Green. Other facilities include the Music & Dance Library in Glidden Hall and the Library Annex.

The Libraries’ collections include more than 3 million volumes; a significant numbers of non-print items such as maps, DVDs, photographs and CDs; and more than 800,000 electronic resources, including e–books, e–journals, databases, and image collections, all available via the Libraries’ web site. Off-campus access is available to current students, faculty and staff. Students and faculty also have easy access to library materials from across the state through OhioLINK, a consortium of over 80 academic libraries that offer more than 46 million items for quick delivery. Through OCLC and other partners, materials from libraries around the world are also readily available through Interlibrary Loan.

Librarians offer a variety of instruction to strengthen students’ awareness and understanding of information resources and the research process. Research assistance is also available online, over the phone or by appointment with a subject librarian.

In addition to the majority of general collections, Alden Library houses Archives and Special Collections, the Fine Arts Library, and the Center for International Collections. The Learning Commons, located on the 2nd floor, provides students with a technology–enriched learning environment equipped with expert assistance for research, writing and technology needs, in an appealing atmosphere conducive to individual research, group study, or collaborative course projects.
