We Hear You: Responses to Your Concerns
You said you wanted better microfilm reader/printers
The Libraries have added three networked scanner units on the first floor that allow digitization of microfilm, microfiche and micro-opaque card formats, as well as one on the fifth floor. The units allow users to seamlessly locate, view and send as images through email the documents needed to do their research.
You said you needed access to scanners, so you can have an electronic copy of your article or book chapter
The Libraries have acquired three new Touch Screen scanners, one on the 2nd and one on the 4th floor of Alden, and one in the Music and Dance Library, near the service desks. They are very popular and easy to use. Take a look at our Scanning and Photocopying page for additional information.
You said you needed delivery service to your office
Alden Library now delivers library materials, Monday through Friday, to a central drop-off location in each building where we have enrolled faculty and staff, including the Ridges. We also pick-up items for return. Take a look at our Delivery Services page for more information.
You said you’d like electronic versions of articles for items at the Annex or in Alden
Document Express is a service provided by the University Libraries (Athens) to scan and deliver materials electronically from Alden Library, the Library Annex and the Music and Dance Library. Make your request using the ILLiad ILL/Document Delivery Request Form. Take a look at our Delivery Services page for more information.
You said you’d like to be able to renew your books from your office or dorm room, even if they are overdue
The system has been set so that you can renew after the books are due – up to 30 days past the due date. Plus, we’ve eliminated late fees.
You said there is a need for more space for quiet reading and study
New space has been identified for quiet study, on the 2nd and 4th floors
You said you’d like an app for your phone
Your smartphone just got smarter. With the new Alden Library app, you can find out whether the library owns a copy of a book before you buy from the book store, renew your books while enjoying coffee on Court St., locate your book on the floor map, find where your class is meeting in the library, and ask questions and get answers from an Alden librarian. The app is available now in the Apple App Store and Android Market.
You said you’d like easier searching for your research needs
ArticlesPlus is the name of a new (as of 2012) “mega” database which combines in one place several dozen article databases on all subjects, plus ALICE (our library catalog), and more besides. A single search box on the library home page covers many different sources. The number of results can be overwhelming—use the search limiters in the left sidebar to reduce the number of results and increase their relevance!
You said you’d like better ways for us to contact you
We now provide an ‘opt-in’ service that sends text messages when library materials are ready for pickup, are ready to renew, or become overdue. Sign up for text messages using My Library Account.
