William Henry Davies![]() Welsh writer William Henry (W.H.) Davies (1871-1940) wrote poems and novels, including the novel The Autobiography of a Supertramp. Davies favored poetry, but also wrote novels because of their selling power. In his work, Davies reflected on his own social hardships by writing about social injustice. Davies’ straightforward style earned him conflicting reputations as a “simpleton” and reputable writer. Davies also wrote Beggars, A Weak Woman, Farewell to Poesy, Songs of Joy, and Foliage: Various Poems. In 1929, Davies was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Wales. |
