George Moore![]() Irish writer George Augustus Moore (1852-1933) is known for his work as a novelist, playwright, and short-story writer. Before trying his hand at what he believed to be his talent – writing – Moore painted in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and Jullian's Academy. While in Paris, Moore was inspired by playwright Bernard Lopez, and Moore wrote the play Worldliness. Moore's interest in plays and theatre blossomed, and he spent much of his time writing plays and trying to reform English drama "so as to encourage more innovation and create more space for serious artistry." Moore also pursued a career as a poet, writing "to ruffle feathers" with the poetry volume Flowers of Passion. Between the 1880s and 1890s, Moore wrote novels. He also wrote an autobiography titled Confessions of a Young Man. Moore's other works include Martin Luther, A Mummer's Wife, Esther Waters, The Untilled Field, The Fashionable Beauty, and The Lake. Contemporary Authors Online, Gale, 2004. Reproduced in Biography Resource Center. Farmington Hills, Mich.: The Gale Group. 2004. |
