Burton Stevenson

American writer Burton Stevenson (1872-1962) wrote children’s books, travel books, detective and mystery novels, anthologies, and historical novels.

Stevenson is also known for his work during World War I setting up libraries for servicemen. Stevenson became the American Library Association’s Library War Service European Director,  and after World War I, he began and was the director of the American Library. The American Library came out of Stevenson’s  belief that there was “a need in Europe for a center that would provide accurate information on the United States.”

Stevenson compiled the Home Book of Proverbs, Maxims, and Familiar Phrases, and wrote The Mystery of the Boule Cabinet. Other works of Stevenson’s include Tommy Remington's Battle, Affairs of State, The Young Apprentice, The House Next Door: A Detective Story, and A King in Babylon.
