Nelsonville, Athens Co., 54" x 102", ink and color on chartex, scale 1 inch = 2 feet.
Columbus & Hocking Coal & Iron Company Collection, MSS 155.

This shows a very early application of new technology designed to solve the problem of the movement of air in the enlarging, industrializing mines. The handsome drawing shows a care for artistry lacking in the later depictions of the mines and their artifacts.

df Detail of: Hanna Plat, 1899-1904

48" x 33", ink and color on chartex, edges bound in pink silk, scale 1 inch = 100 feet.

The Hanna map shows one of the most substantial resources of the great vein, a rival of other substantial coal resources. The presentation will combine surface pictures and corporate records to expand the image.

These very interesting maps of the annual area mines allow us to profile the map as a place to work and a place to profit. It will be compared to the yearly mine inspector's report.

Again, the exploitation can be contrasted with works, exports, profits, and deaths.
