
The Marlborough-on-Hudson property was purchased in 1912. During that
summer Dard Hunter began building the paper mill. He also began
experimenting with papermaking and watermarking. |

| In
1919, the Hunters moved back to Chillicothe, Ohio, and purchased the
Mountain House. Built in 1850, it is located on Carlisle Hill above the
city, visible from nearly all points in town. Hunter bought a
Washington press and the studio at the Mountain House became the
Mountain House Press. Eight books were produced there from 1922-1950. |

| Hunter's
printer's mark is based on the branch and leaf motif from the
Marlborough books and also includes a Bull's Head. The printer's mark
changed with each book as one leaf was added to denote the total number
of books printed by Dard Hunter's press with his type, or that of his
