Robert & Jean Mahn

Robert E. and Jean R. Mahn

Robert E. Mahn passed away on February 1, 2004. However, his legacy of devotion to Ohio University is well established. A $1 million gift from Mr. Mahn and his wife supports the Ohio University Libraries through funding for the Robert E. and Jean. R. Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections.

With the announcement of a major gift to the Ohio University Libraries from Robert E. and Jean R. Mahn in October 2002, the former Archives and Special Collections Department was re-named the Robert E. and Jean R. Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections.

Robert E. Mahn had a long and outstanding career as an administrator at Ohio University, stretching from the late 1930s to the late 1980s. The center's reading room was named in his honor in 1984. Here is a statement prepared in 1988 about his work and his dedication to the University.

Jean Rohde (Mahn), has made Athens, Ohio her home for only a few years but nonetheless has become an active member of the community. Here is a news story with more information on the Mahns, their gift and the center that bears their name.

We also have photographs from the October 15, 2002 event during which the gift was announced and the Robert E. and Jean R. Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections was officially named.
