Provenance: The Ohio University Library received the Barbara Straus Reed Collection as a gift from Professor Reed in July l989. Kevin V. King processed the collection in July l989.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF THE COLLECTION

Barbara Straus Reed was a resident graduate student at Ohio University during the 1978-80 school years. She received her Ph.D. in August 1987 from the College of Communication. She is currently on the faculty in the Department of Journalism and Mass Media in the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies at Rutgers University.

SCOPE AND CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION

The Barbara Straus Reed Collection consists of summary data on Jews in southeastern Ohio, a paper on the migration of Jewish settlers into southeastern Ohio, typescript summaries of interviews with Jewish residents of southeastern Ohio, and biographies of early Jewish families in the region. The collection is arranged with the summary materials first, followed by the individual interview summaries, conducted in 1979, placed in alphabetical order.
