Culture Showcase Series

Poster for Pascal Younge programRecognizing that all people have individual differences and are the product of one or more cultures and ethnic backgrounds, the Ohio University Libraries are committed to cultivating an environment where differences are valued and respected. The Libraries strive to provide an inclusive environment for all individuals regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, background, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and cultural differences; and will actively promote and support diversity among our administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

The Culture Showcase Series is one of the primary activities of the Diversity Committee. The Series attempts to draw connections between cultures represented on campus and the libraries' collections, using local (or sometimes national) figures as speakers and conduits. It was renamed in 2008 from the Culture Corner to its present name.

An over-arching theme is identified each quarter, with one or two presentations scheduled during the quarter. The theme for Spring 2012 is Diversity Through Music. The goal is to provide a welcoming environment in the library and bringing attention to the diversity of the library's collections.  The Libraries have a wealth of information on the diversity series topics.

We hope the speaker series will lead people to investigate the great resources we have in our collections related to the diverse topics we feature. Our overall intent is to showcase all groups and create more inclusiveness in the Libraries.
