Introduction to
What is RefWorks?
RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows you
to create your own personal database by importing references from text
files or online databases. You can use these references in writing papers
and automatically format the paper and the bibliography.
Who can use RefWorks?
RefWorks is licensed for all members of Ohio University--students, faculty, and staff--at both the Athens campus and the regional campuses. Off-campus access to RefWorks is also available; see our page of special instructions for off-campus access.
What can RefWorks do for me?
RefWorks speeds up some of the mechanical aspects of preparing a research paper in several ways:
- It lets you format bibliographies in seconds in a multitude of citation styles such as APA, MLA, Turabian, Chicago, or many others.
- You can import references from OhioLINK as well as from many other databases, such as Academic Search Complete, Art Abstracts, EconLit, ERIC, Historical Abstracts, JSTOR, MLA, PsycInfo, PubMed, RILM, and many more.
- You can import references and bibliographies you may have already created in other software packages like Endnote, ProCite, or Reference Manager
Where is my information stored?
Because RefWorks is web-based, the information on the citations you gather is stored on the RefWorks server in your own personal account. This means that your list of citations is available to you any place you have access to the World Wide Web.
For concerns about privacy and security, see RefWorks' Privacy Policy.
Are there any compatibility issues with RefWorks?
