These instructions assume that you have searched the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center and found some results that you wish to import into RefWorks.
Exporting References from the OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center
- At the Search Results page, click the Article Description of one of the citations you want to export into RefWorks. Electronic Journal Center citations have to be exported one at a time.
- At the article's desription, click the Citation Export (Refer format) link.
The citation will be re-formatted in plain text and displayed in your browser window.
- Click File on the menu bar.
- Then click Save Page As in the drop-down menu.
The Save Web Page window will open.
- Note where you are saving the file.
- Note the name of the file you are saving, sciserv_pl
- Click the down arrow in the Save as type select box and click Text File (*.txt) .
- Click the Save button.
Importing References into RefWorks
Go to RefWorks at www.refworks.com. At the RefWorks login page:
- Enter your login name.
- Enter your password.
- Click Login.
If you need to create a new account for RefWorks, click on the link immediately above the space for you login name. See also our separate instructions on RefWorks accounts.
Please note: Ignore the link that says "Athens Users"; it has nothing whatsoever to do with Ohio University!
- Click References in the top menu.
- Then click Import in the drop-down menu.
On the RefWorks Import page:
- Click the down arrow in the Import Filter/Data Source select box and click the Refer Format from the drop-down list.
- Click the down arrow in the Database select box and click Science Direct (Refer Format) from the drop-down list.
- Click the Browse button adjacent to the Import Data from the following Text File textbox.
In the Choose File window:
- Make sure you are in the location where you saved the sciserv_pl.txt file.
- Click the sciserv_pl.txt file.
- The sciserv_pl.txt file will appear in the File name textbox.
- Click Open button.
At the RefWorks Import page:
- The path and sciserv_pl.txt file display in the Import Data textbox.
- Click the Import button at the bottom of the page.
The RefWorks Import page will open.
- RefWorks will prompt with Import Completed when it is finished.
- Click View Last Imported Folder to view your reference.
- RefWorks will display your reference in the Last Imported Folder window.
- For information about searching and sorting your citations or about creating and organizing folders click the RefWorks HELP link.
- Click on the OLinks icon to go to a link that will allow yo to open the full text of the article.
