and Wilson Databases
These instructions assume that you have searched a Wilson database and found some results that you wish to import into RefWorks.
Exporting References from a Wilson database
- At the Results page, mark the records you want to import by clicking on the boxes next to the references.
- Click Get Marked.
- Click Print Email Save.
- Click Save Options.
- Next to Fields, select FULL TEXT & images included, if available.
- Next to Format, select Format for exporting to Bibliographic Software.
- Click Save.
- A new window with plain text will appear.
- Click File on the menu bar.
- Then click Save Page As in the drop-down menu.
The Save Web Page window will open.
- Note where you are saving the file.
- Note the name of the file you are saving. We renamed the file to be called wilson
- Click the down arrow in the Save as type select box and click Text File (*.txt).
- Click the Save button.
Importing References into RefWorks
Go to RefWorks at www.refworks.com. At the RefWorks login page:
- Enter your login name.
- Enter your password.
- Click Login.
If you need to create a new account for RefWorks, click on the link immediately above the space for you login name. See also our separate instructions on RefWorks accounts.
Please note: Ignore the link that says "Athens Users"; it has nothing whatsoever to do with Ohio University!
- Click References in the top menu.
- Then click Import in the drop-down menu.
On the RefWorks Import page:
- Click the down arrow in the Import Filter/Data Source select box and click the H.W. Wilson from the drop-down list.
- Click the down arrow in the Database select box and click All Databases from the drop-down list.
- Click the Browse button adjacent to the Import Data from the following Text File textbox.
In the Choose File window:
- Make sure you are in the location where you saved the wilson.txt file.
- Click the wilson.txt file.
- The wilson.txt file will appear in the File name textbox.
- Click the Open button.
At the RefWorks Import page:
- The path and wilson.txt file display in the Import Data textbox.
- Click the Import button at the bottom of the page.
The RefWorks Import page will open.
- RefWorks will prompt with Import completed when it is finished.
- Click View Last Imported Folder to view your references.
- RefWorks will display your reference in the Last Imported Folder window.
- For information about searching and sorting your citations or about creating and organizing folders click the RefWorks HELP link.
- Click the OLinks icon to see if an article is available in full-text, print or microform format and to submit an interlibrary loan request.
