English 151 Instruction Setup Form

Notes to librarian: e-mail your instructors as soon as possible.
  • Yes, it might be possible to reschedule your sessions; ask LW
  • Stress team teaching. The instructor must attend the library sessions. Talk about working together to insure participation and make it clear that this is important.
  • Discuss how the time will be structured. Remember to allow a lot of time for hands-on and hover.
  • Stress the importance of students coming with a topic. If they are having trouble, we'd like to work with them to find alternative search terms or aspects of the topic rather than switching topics. Mention that a written research proposal done before the library session has proven to be valuable.

Will your students come to the library with their topics ready?

Will you have worked with them on refining their topics, or required a written proposal?

How many, and what kind of sources will you be requiring? (web, magazine, journal, book, interview, media, other?)

What readings are you using in class that pertain to this assignment?

Is there anything special I should know about your students?

What have librarians done in your class in the past that you thought was particularly useful (or not useful?) or well-presented? Should we do that again this time?

How will the library day be counted in your grading? May we assign 3 articles and word bank for the final class?

What kind of preparation will you do ahead of time to get them ready to do research? Which of these topics will you cover? Which ones do you want me to cover? (Realize that I can't cover everything!)
