Census by Subject | Electronic Historical Census Data Population Census SchedulesThe 1790 census schedules exist for most of the states in which the census was taken and are available in printed form, in indexed volumes for each state (VA, PA, CT, EM, MD, VT, SC, RI, NY, NC, NH, and MA). The schedules are arranged by county and in some cases by minor subdivisions of counties. An entry shows the name of a head of the family, the number of free white males of 16 years, the number of free white females, the number of all other free persons, and the number of slaves. The name of the head of the family is included in the numerical statistics. The library has a reprint edition call Heads of Families. Call Number: C 3.11: state. The county boundaries in 1790 and 1800 of the Thirteen Original States and areas carved our of them: Maine, Vermont, Kentucky, tennessee, and West Virginia, are shown on maps in Bureau of the Census, A Century of Population Growth, 1790 - 1900 Call Number: C 3.2:P 81. Minor subdivision of the counties are given in Census Office, 6th Census, 1830, Sixth Census or Enumeration of the Inhabitants of the United States, as Corrected at the Department of State in 1840. The names of the cities, towns, and other minor subdivisions of the counties in 1860 are listed under the name of each State and Territory in the Census Office, 8th Census, 1860, Population of the United States in 1860 : Compiled from the Original Returns of the Eighth Census.
