Foreign Broadcast Information Service - FBIS Daily Reports

The DAILY REPORTS are translations into English of written and spoken material from radio and television broadcasts, news agency transmissions, and magazines and newspapers. The work of collecting and translating reports is done by the offices of the Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS).

From 4 September 1941 - September/October 1996 the FBIS published assorted series and area edition of Daily Reports translations from foreign broadcasts, news agency transmissions and sometimes from periodicals and newspapers. In 1996 all FBIS publications were combined and issued on CD-ROM as FBIS Publications. From 1953 - 1995 the Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS), an auxiliary of the FBIS and the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) produced the Daily Reports. In 1995 the contents of the Daily Report goes on-oline as the World News Connection and as well on CD-ROM as FBIS Publications.

An INDEX to all FBIS DAILY REPORTS from 1977 to October 1996 is available on CD-ROM in the Documents Department on the public computers. This CD-ROM Index will help you quickly identify specific DAILY REPORTS covering subjects you are interested in. For earlier material, use the monthly Tables of Contents filed at the beginning of each year's issues, or refer to a general index such as The New York Times Index. Once you determine the date of an event you are researching, you can check the DAILY REPORTS for that time period.

The Daily Reports are organized by the area of the world they originated from. Each area of the world has been given an abbreviation code, and the Daily Reports in the Documents Department on the fifth floor are filed by call numbers which include these codes.
