Ohio Information Online / Ohio Documents Collection
Ohio documents are cataloged in the library's ALICE Online Catalog. You can also search for Ohio materials in the statewide online catalog—OhioLINK Central Catalog. Most of the material can be checked out for three or more weeks. Like our federal collection, Ohio publications are distributed in several formats, including books, pamphlets, microfiche, videos and CD-ROMs. The state agencies are also providing access to a number of titles on their web sites. The Ohio documents collection is located on the Fifth Floor of Alden Library. State of West Virginia Main Page- www.wv.gov/ Ohio Documents in Alden LibraryOhio University became a State of Ohio depository in 1959 and receives all agency and department publications deemed important for public use and distributed through the state depository program. Items are received from such state agencies as the Department of Education, the Secretary of State, and the Natural Resources Department. Materials are also received from those agencies, boards, commissions, and bureaus which are funded by the state government, e.g. the Agricultural Research and Development Center, the Ohio Youth Commission, the Public Utilities Commission, etc. Our Ohio documents collection has over 16,000 volumes, 5,700 units of microfiche, and 188 periodical titles. The Ohio documents collection includes publications, such as reports, directories, pamphlets, leaflets, posters, newsletters, and journals; Ohio General Assembly materials including the Acts of the State of Ohio (Laws of Ohio), and the House and Senate Journals; and judicial information. The collection includes everything from statistics to engineering studies, from recipes and geological maps, to brochures about the State Parks. It should be noted that this collection does not include publications from the state universities of Ohio which may be located in the general stacks. College Catalogs may be viewed from CollegeSource. The State Library of Ohio is the regional depository for publications of Ohio state agencies. The Ohio Revised Code Section 149.11 provides that the agencies shall deposit copies of their publications with the State Library. The State Library in turn distributes many of these publications to selected Ohio depository libraries for the use of Ohio residents. Arrangement of Ohio DocumentsOhio documents in the 5th floor collection are shelved according to the Ohio Documents Classification Scheme. This cataloging system is similar to the SuDoc System used for U.S. documents: it is an arrangement according to issuing agency rather than by subject as in the Library of Congress or Dewey Decimal systems. Ohio document call numbers consist of letters and numbers such as the following: OD 1.2: A939 (A publication from Ohio Development Department) |
