OHIO ADJUTANT GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT

The Adjutant General's Department is as old as the State of Ohio. The office is the administrative head of the military and naval forces of the State and custodian of all military records, correspondence and military documents.

The Adjutant General has published Rosters for the major military conflicts in which the state had committed troops. Some of the rosters may be confusing if a military affiliation is not known. There is an index to find names in the Official Register, titled ALPHABETICAL INDEX TO OFFICIAL ROSTER OF THE SOLDIERS OF THE STATE OF OHIO.

REVOLUTIONARY WAR
OFFICIAL ROSTER, SOLDIERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION BURIED IN OHIO.
Published in 1929, this is an alphabetical list by name which includes bibliographic information for each soldier. There is an index which lists individual counties and the veterans from each.

ROSTER OF OHIO SOLDIERS IN THE WAR OF 1812
Lists names and rank of solders by Roll of Captain under whom they served. Sometimes the county of these regiments was known, sometimes not.

There are twelve volumes to this set, all soldiers listed by county regiments.

SPANISH AMERICAN WAR
ROSTER OF OHIO SOLDIERS IN THE WAR WITH SPAIN, 1898-1899.
One volume, names by regiment, is shelved in Ohio Documents, Call Number: OA 1.19:R 68/898.

WORLD WAR I
OFFICIAL ROSTER OF OHIO SOLDIERS, SAILORS AND MARINES
A 23 volume set in alphabetical order by name. Information included is army, rank, where born, where fought, etc.

SOLDIERS' AND SAILORS' ORPHANS' HOME

The Home, located in Xenia, Ohio, was founded in 1869 by veterans of the Civil War. There is a section in each yearly report that lists the names of children admitted, names of both parents, whether each parent is living or deceased, and the regiment of the father. The Home's annual reports were made to the Governor and are in the Ohio Executive Documents.

from the Green County Public Library. The information included in this database is not a complete registry of all students admitted to the school, but it does have more than 3500 records, taken from the original admission records. Photocopies of these records are stored in the archives of the Greene County Room of the Green County Public Library.

INSPECTOR OF MINES

THE ANNUAL REPORT OF THE CHIEF INSPECTOR OF MINES has within it lists of names of people in coal mining accidents in Ohio by ethnicity, location, and type of accident or cause of death. Often there is quite a bit of detail as to cause of the fatal accidents. For 1907-1913, these are shelved in the Ohio Documents, call number OIN 146.1: year. For earlier years [1874-1903] and 1914, the reports were made to the Governor in the Ohio Executive Documents.
