Group Study Rooms Policy

Procedure No: 20.01
Effective Date: 10/18/79
Revised Date: 05/23/2007

Purpose

To specify the Library's policy and procedure governing the use of Group Study Rooms.

Policy

The Library maintains a number of rooms designated as Group Study Rooms for the use of Ohio University students, staff and faculty working together on group projects for classes or for other academic purposes. They are not intended for use by individuals working alone, by regularly scheduled classes, or for staff meetings. Food is not allowed in Group Study rooms.

Locations and supervision

Group study rooms are located on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of Alden Library. Supervision of these rooms is assigned to the following service desks:

  • 1st floor (2 rooms): Center for International Collections / Microforms
  • 2nd floor (9 rooms): Learning Commons, Library Services Desk
  • 3rd floor (2 rooms): Health Sciences Library
  • 4th floor: (Rm 403): Circulation Desk

Procedure

Group study rooms may be reserved online at www.library.ohiou.edu/studyroom/roschedule.php. New users must register to use this scheduling program. Rooms vary in size and equipment available. Once registered, users can see the descriptions and availability of the rooms and reserve the time slot they need.

Group study rooms are kept locked when not in use. Groups should go to the designated service desk for access. (In the Learning Commons on the second floor, a key to the room is checked out to a group member. A University ID card is needed for this process.)

Users may make reservations up to seven days in advance. A group may reserve a room for up to three hours in a twenty four hour period. A group making more than one reservation within a 24 hour period may find that their additional reservations have been deleted. A group may extend its reservation to use the group study room beyond the original three hours if there are no succeeding reservations or requests for use by making this request at the library service desk on that floor. In the Learning Commons, a group which wants to extend its time needs to also renew the room key at the Library Services desk.

A reserved room will be held for fifteen minutes beyond the start time of the reservation; if unclaimed for use by the reserving group after fifteen minutes, the room will be made available to other users.
