Cellular Telephone Use in the Library

Procedure No: 20.06
Effective Date: 5/14/07
Revised Date: 5/14/07

Purpose

To specify appropriate use of cellular telephones (cell phones) within the library facilities in order to respect the right of library users to an environment appropriate for reading, research, and study.

Policy

Cell phones may be used only in elevator lobbies, in entry areas on the 2nd and 4th floors, in the 3rd floor display area, in the Café Biblio Tech, and in group study rooms. Telephone conversations occurring in these areas should be conducted in a quiet voice and should be limited in duration.

Cell phones carried into other areas of the library should be turned off or set to a silent mode. Users who receive calls in these areas should move outside the library or to a space as described above before beginning conversations.
