- Videotapes (including feature films) on a wide range of topics, as well as DVDs, CDs, LPs, and cassettes are located in the Learning Commons (2nd floor of Alden Library) in the Media Library. Videotapes and sound recordings (LP 's, Cassettes and Compact Discs) on music and dance topics are located in at the Music/Dance Library h floor of Glidden Hall. These materials must be borrowed from and returned to the Music and Dance Library.
Audio Books (books-on tape) books-on-tape are located in the Leisure Reading Area on the 4th Floor of Alden Library.
- Book Return Drop-Boxes
- Drop-boxes are found on the west side of the Park Street (2nd floor/Learning Commons) entrance, and on the east side of the campus (4th floor/Circulation Services) entrance.
Patrons with disabilities may choose to use a drop box designed for motor vehicle access. Located in the Clippinger Hall parking lot (south side of the northwest lot). The box requires a key available through the Institutional Equity office.

Alden Library has 12 study rooms for faculty on the 6th floor. Assignments are made upon application of a faculty member who has a specific need to work closely with the library collection for a specific length of time. Assignments are made for an academic quarter and rooms are shared by two. The key deposit is $45 and renewal of room assignments can be requested each quarter. There is often a waiting list.
There are 12 study rooms on the 1st floor of Alden Library specifically for graduate students. Assignments are made upon application of a graduate student who has a specific need to work closely with the library collection for a specific length of time. Assignments are made for an academic quarter and one person is assigned per study carrel. The key deposit is $10 and renewal of room assignments can be requested each quarter. The waiting list for graduate carrels is often over a year long.
Application for study carrels can be made through Cathy Sitko, 2nd floor, room 206, Alden Library.
- Change Machines
- A change machine is located on the 4th floor of Alden Library, near the Circulation Services Desk. Change is also available from the vending machines in Café BiblioTech (NOTE: No purchase required for change service).

- Fax Machine
- Yes, there is a fax machine in the Learning Commons (2nd floor); it's located just to the left of the elevators (as you face them). It is for sending faxes only, not for receiving them. If you need to receive a fax, check with the local commercial copy services (such as FedEx/Kinko's, 5 N. Court St.) to see if they can provide this service.
Instructions on making faxes are posted by the machine. If you are sending a fax to a long distance number, you will need to use either a Bobcat card or prepaid phone calling card to pay for the connection charges.
An alternative to using this fax machine is to use the website faxzero.com. The use of this service is free, subject to the following stipulations:
- Files must be either .PDF or .DOC (but not .DOCX files)
- One document; maximum 3 pages in length
- Maximum of 2 faxes per day
- For the USA and Canada only; this will not work for international faxes

- Food and beverage is available from a service counter and vending machines in Café BiblioTech in the Learning Commons of Alden Library. A vending machines area is also available in Glidden Hall (location of the Music/Dance Library).
PLEASE NOTE:
The consumption of food in Alden Library is restricted to the Café BiblioTech on the 2nd floor (Learning Commons). Beverages must be contained in sturdy, re-sealable containers. Other drink containers—paper or Styrofoam cups and cans—are limited to the Café BiblioTech.
- Group Study Rooms
- There are 15 Group Study Rooms on floors 1-4, which may be resrved online for periods of up to 3 hours. For more information, see our Group Study Room page
- Lockers
- Lockers for rent are located on the 7th floor of Alden Library and in the Learning Commons on the 2nd floor (for availablility, call 593-2695). Here is the schedule of rental fees:
- 1 quarter for $5
- 2 quarters for $9
- 3 quarters for $12
- 4 quarters for $16
There's also a $20 refundable key deposit.
- Lost and Found
- Items lost in Alden Library are collected and held for claiming at the Circulation Desk, 4th floor, Alden Library or at the service desk in the Music/Dance Library.

- Fee-based copy services are available on the 4th Floor of Alden Library.
Photocopiers and printers are available on all floors of Alden Library and in the Music/Dance Library.
Self-serve Scanners are available on the 2nd and 3rd floors of Alden Library.
- Phones
- Public telephones are located in Café BiblioTech (Learning Commons, 2nd floor Alden Library), near the restrooms on the 4th floor of Alden Library, and on the 4th floor of Glidden Hall (Music/Dance Library location).
PLEASE NOTE: Cell phone use is discouraged in study areas. Cell phone users are asked to make and take calls only in areas such as Café BiblioTech, stairwells, and the entrances on 2nd and 4th floors. Please, be courteous and restrict use of cell phones so as not to disturb others in library facilities.
- Quiet Study Areas
- Designated quiet study areas are located on the 1st, 3rd and 5th floors. In addition, study carrels located along the walls on the 6th and 7th floors provide relatively quiet study areas. The Government Documents Department on the fifth floor is a "deep quiet"
floor where talking is very limited and cell phones should be turned off
before entering the department.
- Restrooms
- Men's Rest Rooms: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th floors. Handicapped facilities are available on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors.
Women's Rest Rooms: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th floors. Handicapped facilities are available on the 2nd and 4th floors.

- Vendacards
- Vendacards are debit cards used by the Library's copiers, printers, and microform reader-printers. A Vendacard dispenser/charger is located on the 2nd floor near the collection of reference books and on the 4th floor beside the Circulation Desk. Instructions are posted on the machine.

- The Student Writing Center provides writing tutoring FREE of charge to all Ohio University students. You can make an appointment for a face to face or virtual meeting by visiting the SWC in Alden Library on the second floor.
