What is the SAILS Test?
SAILS stands for Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills.  It is a national multiple-choice test that measures college students' research skills.  For more information on the SAILS test, see information on the Project SAILS website.
Students are directed to the SAILS web site to take the web-based test.  The test is 45 questions long, and it takes most students 35 minutes to complete.

Why are we doing this?
The Ohio University Libraries plan to administer this test to entering and exiting students to measure their growth in information competency during their time at Ohio University.

When is it given?
To measure a baseline of students’ research skills when they come to OU, we will give the test each fall to first-year students before they have any significant library instruction.  Additionally, each spring we will administer the test to graduating seniors to measure what they have learned about information competency during their time at OU.
