Commercial Sources of MapsUSGS National Mapping Information describes USGS cartographic data products, lists retailers. The International Map Trade Association (IMTA) is a good place to look for map specialty retailers, link to map publishers and retailers. wolleysoft (a United Kingdom software company) has a good list of map and remote sensing links. OMNI Resources, a seller/supplier with a very large selection of geologic maps, has two divisions; a Map Division and an Earth Science Supply Division. ESRI has GIS software, the ArcView folks, lots of GIS related information, training, etc. World of Maps is a Canadian seller of maps and travel guide-books. Treaty Oak is a map distributor specializing in maps (including digital) of Latin America and the Caribbean. Their retail store gonetommorow.com is a good source for international travel maps worldwide. Map Link stocks a wide range (over 100,000 titles) of commercial and governmental maps, travel guides, and other materials covering both the United States and the rest of the world. Four 0ne Company Ltd. (Canada) is a seller of maps, CD-ROMs, and atlases; it hasgood descriptions of the items it sells. Rand McNally Online is a seller/publisher of CD-ROM software, maps, atlases, and travel products. The GeoCenter ILH site lists recent offerings. Although GeoCenter's main trade is in tourist products, all "kind of geoscientific maps and atlases are comprised in the comprehensive" three-volume loose-leaf GeoKatalog 2, Geosciences (MAP COLL GA300 G46x) which as noted earlier is not available on the Web. Maptech sells land map software, marine chart software, marine books and charts and aeronautical products. Of particualr interest there is the site's "Maptech MapServer" which provides access to over 65,000 topographic maps, nautical and aeronautical charts, aerial photographs and satellite images covering the United States. Searching, viewing, and email or printing the maps is free, and there is a tutorial. Gold Bug has historic map reproductions, downloadable maps, and software. National Geographic is an excellent resource guide for classroom use as well as seller of maps, books, globes, CD-ROMs, topographic software, and map products. |
