Some specific selections:MapPoint, from Microsoft, has maps and driving directions for the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. The maps produced are clean and detailed. Mapquest is an interactive atlas for finding directions, with customizable features. Ohio Maps has Maps of Ohio counties and bigger cities. One section of the Library of Congress's American Memory project is the Map Collection, 1500 - 2003. This initial page introduces seven major themes and contains a combined index where one can determine which maps the Library of Congress and other sources have digitized. One interesting series is the Panoramic Maps of cities and towns in the United States and Canada. Another interesting section of the American Memory project is The American Revolution and Its Era, which has maps and charts of North America and the West Indies, 1750-1789. The David Rumsey Collection concentrates on 18th century North and South American maps and cartographic materials. The last time we checked there were over 8,800 images on-line. The images are high-resolution, with excellent viewing software, indexing and references. For the serious researcher there is also a Java Client option.
