Classroom Teaching Resources

Outline Maps:

The Perry-Castañeda Library's Outline Maps list of links is a good academic source or if your needs are specific.

These following are good for classroom resources:

  • Matt Rosenberg's About Geography section would be a good start; it includes outline maps and more (you will need to explore a bit).
  • Houghton Mifflin's Outline Maps, which has some maps for school use.

About Projections:

Try Peter Dana's Map Projection Overview for descriptions and graphic examples.

K-12:

The National Geographic Society, USA site is mainly a K-12 site with a wide assortment of high quality interactive materials, resources, and the Society's catalog. The Map section is a good source for maps and related materials, and be sure to visit the "Map Machine" interactive atlas, which combines the functions of a gazateer, maps, and custom building of your chosen area with a wide variety of physical, cultural and statisticas data the site provides.

The Great Globe Gallery has world views from space, sea surface temperature, digital elevation, projections, El-Nino, ozone, plate tectonics, ancient globes...you name it.

Mentioned previously, What You Need to Know about Geography Geography from About.com is a good site for teachers. Make sure to work back to the site's home page for additional topics.
