CENTRAL FILES.
- The "Central Files", record group 59, are from the Department of
State's Internal and Foreign Affairs subject classifications of the Central Files (Decimal Files 790
& 711.90; 890) now housed in the National Archives. These files consist of instructions and
correspondence received from and sent to diplomatic posts abroad and include a wide range of
materials reporting on political, military, social and economic developments, minutes, interviews,
texts of letters and instructions, and translations of foreign documents. UPA series, Far East

The HUAC and the FBI developed a working relationship. This file contains
hundreds of reports from 1938 thru 1945. Major themes include the clashes between HUAC
chairman Martin Dies with the Roosevelt and Truman administrations, the process in which
HUAC and the FBI chose their targets, how the HUAC (later Internal Security Committee)

FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM. PAPERS. (Part 2:
Minutes of meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee, 1923-1975.) As the central bank of
the United States, the Federal Reserve System formulates and administers policy for the Nation's
monetary and credit affairs. The Federal Open Market Committee determines the policy
concerning the purchase and sale of government securities. These minutes show FOMC in action
and also discuss international financial developments, political pressures, etc. 32 reels microfilm &

FIRE INSURANCE MAPS.(Sanborn) This collection has
been issued in two parts, 1867-1950 and 1950-1970. For 1867-1950 the Library has most of
OHIO excluding the largest cities, only the "Athens" roll for 1950-1970. The reels are alphabetical by city/town, mostly Ohio, but a few other cities are represented. The Library also has some holdings for other states. Check ALICE under"fire+insurance+maps" for specific holdings and call numbers.
ALICE notes the specific roll holdings of the Library, but use of the Printed guide, FIRE
INSURANCE MAPS IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, is recommended: MAP COLL
Z6026.I7 U54 1981. The Sanborn maps for Ohio can also be accessed on-line via OhioLink, note the excellent index. Besides places the names of companies and buildings are also indexed, with direct access to the appropriate map. For example "Valley Pork House" takes one to the specific map where it is located. The images are excellent, but sometimes shaded areas are more discernable from the microfilm for reproduction purposes (note reel identification at bottom of full record).

FIRST WORLD WAR: A DOCUMENTARY RECORD.
This set contains documents produced by the Allies as well as the Central powers, the Library
has the following: Series I, European War 1914-1919, the War Reserve Collection (WRA-WRE)
in the Cambridge University Library. Parts 1-4. Series I, Part 1, consists of the Collection's Card
Catalogue and Manuscript Listings. Series I, Part 2, contains the "trench" journals, personal
narratives and reminiscences portion of the War Reserve Collection. Series I, Part 3, reproduces
Allied Propaganda. Series I, Part 4, reproduces German Propaganda. See the GUIDES for details
of the scope of this ongoing microfilming project, contents of the rolls of the catalog, and short a
chronology of the war. There is a Part 5, which is currently not owned by the Library, Royal

FOWLER COLLECTION OF EARLY ARCHITECTURAL
BOOKS. This set consists of 482 works in architecture from 1485 to early 19th century
materials. It contains monographs, pamphlets, plates, and drawings. Individually cataloged on
ALICE. Also consult with the Fine Arts Department; the Department has a guide -- The Fowler
Architectural Collection of the John Hopkins University Catalogue,(ARTS NA2500 .I65 1982x.)

Institute's archives. The collection contains more than 30,000 pages of textual and graphic records
from 1824 through 1950 providing an insider's look at the interests, initiatives, and achievements
that brought the Franklin Institute its success. Also included are photographs and drawings on a
wide variety of scientific and technical topics. The guide includes a detailed inventory of the
