GERRITSEN COLLECTION OF WOMEN'S HISTORY, 1543-1945.
This collection was begun in the 19th century by Aletta Jacobs Gerritson, a leader in the international suffrage and pacifist movements and the Netherlands' first woman doctor. The collection has been supplemented from other sources and contains an unmatched body of material in all subjects relating to women, particularly for the 1860-1900 period. The Gerritsen Collection contains approximately 2,300 English Language books, 930 German, 730 French, 470 in other languages and also has 265 periodical title runs (the combined holdings of many libraries). Eventually title-by-title cataloging will probably be available on ALICE, but for now using the printed guides will be the best means of access to the collection. These contain the full compliment of listings author, title, subject, topical groupings, chronological, language, and serials list. (An alternative is to search OhioLink Central. Use word search "Gerritsen" and some other key word. After locating a desired title, check "note" for item's reference number.) Printed guides (3 vols in 2) & 17,555 microfiche; 244 35mm microfilm rolls; HQ1121 .G44 1975x. (Note: Chadwyck-Healey has published Gerritsen Collection - Women's History Online which offers full keyword searching and images of all two million pages in this set. Since this library already has the microform and subcribing is well beyond our means this library does not offer the on-line version.)

Great Britain. Parliament. House of Commons. British SESSIONAL PAPERS. (Approx. 1800 - current.)
The House of Commons is the "lower" house. The British Parliamentary Papers contain a wealth of resources beyond what one would expect regarding constitutional and administrative matters, but also no less than 100,000 papers for the social, military, diplomatic, and ecclesiastical historian of Great Britain or the area studies. The Sessional Papers, as printed, contain three basic series --
(1) Public Bills;
(2) Papers, reports, accounts, etc.,; and
(3) Command Papers.

For the most part, in regards to searching for materials in the indexes, the following four categories are used:

1. Public Bills.
2. Reports from Committees (Commons.)
3. Reports from Commissioners, annual reports, ad hoc committees, inspectors, etc.
4. Accounts and Papers (financial, statistical, treaties, etc.)

Items are numbered as issued and are arranged under broad categories; the last volume is usually the Sessional Index which will list Command Papers, Bills, and Papers by number and also includes a detailed alphabetical index. These can be consulted year-by-year. Many other indexes have been published. For those seeking some detail of content many useful indexes have been published. Older series are located at the end of the Microprint series, others can be located in the Reference Department in the CD... and Z2009 call number areas. A useful guide for the 1801- 1899 time frame is Checklist of British Parliamentary papers... Z2019 I73. An index for the 1900-1949 time frame can be found in the Reference Department- - the General Index to the Bills, Reports and Papers ... REF Z2009 .G723. The SUBJECT CATALOGUE OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS PARLIAMENTARY ... 1801- 1900 ... REF Z2019 .C63 1988x is the most comprehensive for that time period, classifies all papers into 19 categories.. Many other specialized indexes are available in printed form, as well as guides to what the Parliamentary Papers are and how to use them, check ALICE. A comprehensive index to recent HMSO materials is the HMSO MONTHLY CATALOGUE (Z2009 .G82x; 1985-) and the HMSO ANNUAL CATALOGUE (Z2009 .G822; 1986- ) There is also a collection of General Indexes, subjects and persons, at the end of Microprint portion of the microform set. These are for the most part 7 to 10-year cumulations. A CD-ROM index for the Sessional Papers, 1991- current, is available, consult with the Microform Staff.

The Microprint portion of the set follows the arrangement of the original bound volumes, arranged chronologically, the microfiche is arranged in three above mentioned series in number order as issued. To date this set is equivalent to about 16,000 volumes. The British Sessional Papers are considered one of the richest and most important collection of printed government records. In scope this collection is an unmatched resource in historical, social, and scientific matters, both for Great Britian as well as for those countries within the British Empire at one time or another. An important component in this regard are the "Command Papers", which are basically background materials on matters likely to be dabated, Commonwealth and foreign affiars reports, treaties, and topical and annual reports of government departments. The House of Commons Journal (noted below) may contain some pre-1833 material of this nature. The Readex Microprint portion of this set was made up from the combined resources of more than 125 libraries worldwide. M/Print J301 .K613 (materials prior to 1980), materials 1980+ are on microfiche (gray files #0178 & 0179) at end of classified microfiche section.)
