Microforms and Non-Print Collection

Sets and Collections: Introduction

Please note: Some items in this set of pages are now included in InfoTree and the descriptions here are not always up to date. Furthermore, the listings here are not up-to-date. If you are looking for specific microform materials, you should search for them by title in ALICE.

The information below and on the related pages has links to descriptions of microform collections and significant uncataloged series both in the Microform Collection and in the other parts of Alden Library.

The aim of this guide is to inform potential users about often-overlooked source materials available. Despite great progress in the inclusion of information about microform (microfilm, microfiche or micro-opaque) in ALICE, the Libraries' online catalog, many microform sets remain unrepresented. Furthermore, the full range of material within many of the sets that are cataloged is not revealed.

Several major groups of records require browsing. Materials originating from the British Public Record Office and agencies of the U. S. Government, in particular, are arranged by genre or source, and the user will encounter a second-level arrangement by series number. If you viewing this document in electronic format, specific word-searching is sometimes the most useful.

These lists describe sets and collections available on Alden Library's first floor, as well as some in other departments.

Interlibrary loan of a few units of material at a time is possible, but materials are not always available for loan. Set guides and indexes are not lent. A large portion of materials microform cited in these lists have not been formally cataloged. Users are strongly urged to visit in person.

Alphabetical Lists

The lists are arranged by titles of the sets of microforms. The links below are based on these titles. Users should be aware that many different sets of materials relating to government agencies of, for example, the United States and Great Britain are all listed under the names of the countries.
