Journal Citation Reports now available online

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

Journal impact factors as defined by ISI are often an important part of the tenure process, especially for faculty in the sciences. The Library now subscribes to the online database Journal Citation Reports (http://infotree.library.ohiou.edu/single-records/2554.html) which provides impact factors and many other statistics about scholarly journals. The Library is holding a workshop for those wanting to learn more about this database on Wednesday, May 10 in 323 Alden. Register for this workshop at http://www.library.ohiou.edu/inst/workshops.html#isi.

Friends Readathon, May 9-10

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

The Friends of the Libraries will hold their annual Readathon event next
week, on Tuesday-Wednesday, May 9-10. This year the Readathon will take
place in Alden Library, in the 4th floor lounge area. Among the the readers are President Roderick McDavis, Deborah McDavis, and Provost Kathy Krendl; their times are 11 a.m, 2:30 p.m., and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, respectively. A full schedule, in PDF format, is available here.

The purpose of the Readathon is two-fold: (1) to celebrate the importance
of reading in our society and the place of the library in the academic
culture, and (2) to support readers with cash donations which funds all go
to the Friends Scholarship fund for student assistants.

Finally, if you see kites and a puppet of Ben Franklin around the lounge
next week, be aware that this year marks the 350th anniversary of
Franklin’s birth. This outstanding American citizen, among many other
things, founded the first subscription (circulating) library in our country
in Philadelphia.
