University Library Friends To Hold Winter Book Sale

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

The Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University will begin their Winter Book Sale on Thursday, February 1 with a pre-sale from 7-9 p.m. “During the pre-sale most books will be priced at $2 each for people who like the very best selection,” explains George Bain, Executive Secretary for the Friends.

Sale hours on Friday, February 2 will be 10 am-6 pm and from 10 am-4 pm on Saturday, February 3. Most books will be priced at $1 each on Friday and Saturday. Prices will be reduced to a bargain rate of $3 per plastic bag after 1 pm on Saturday.

“In addition to the many books,” states book sale chair Rich Moffitt, “the Friends will also offer used picture frames at a bargain rate too.”

The sale is open to the public and will be held on the fourth floor of Alden Library near the Circulation desk.

The Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University were established in 1979 to provide  support for strengthening the Libraries, their collections and services.

Changes to Printing and Login Procedures

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Two changes have recently been implemented that affect printing from personal laptop computers and logging in to ILLiad, our Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service.

Effective immediately, individuals who bring personal laptop computers to Alden Library will be able to print using the printers in the building. The procedures for doing this are summarized on our web page about printing in the libraries. Please note that this method of printing will work only for computers running Windows XP or Windows 2000. Other versions of Windows and the Macintosh operating system are not supported.

The other change involves logging in to ILLiad, the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery service. Previously, everyone logging in to ILLiad had to enter their names and Social Security numbers in order to access their accounts. Now, most users will be able to use their OAK IDs and passwords instead. Those registered users who do not have OAK accounts (e.g., Friends of the Libraries) will still need to use their names and Patron ID numbers.

If you have questions or need more information, please contact the Libraries Systems Department at 593-9680.

New OhioLINK EJC Interface

Monday, January 8th, 2007

The OhioLINK Electronic Journal Center will have a new interface for the New Year beginning January 8, 2007. The new interface will look familiar to current EJC users, but it will also offer better performance and more functionality. New features include:

  • My Articles – A function of My EJC, the My Articles features allows you to create and save your favorite articles for easy reference later.
  • Password retrieval – In the old interface forgotten passwords were irretrievable. Now you can automatically generate a new one.
  • Find similar articles in the EJC with just one click.
  • Collapsible/Expandable panels allow for faster browsing of titles with extensive numbers of issues or long back files.
  • Quick links to the complete article from both the issue and article level page helps you get the full-text article more quickly.

These oldie-but-goodie features are still available and worth trying out if you haven’t already:

  • Journal alerts – Get new issue alerts via RSS feed or go to My EJC and create an account to create a list of favorite journals and set up e-mail notifications.
  • My Searches – Put your research on autopilot. Save your searches and set times for the system to automatically execute them and e-mail you the results.

It is possible to migrate your saved searches from the old system to the new one. Go here for instructions on doing so.

If you have any questions about the EJC, or problems to report with the new interface, please use this form to contact the OhioLINK staff, or you can contact one of the Ohio University librarians.
