1804 and Junior Faculty Endowments for 2006-2007

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Jan Maxwell, the Libraries’ Assistant Dean for Collection Development, has announced the timetable for applications for 1804 and Arts and Humanities Junior Faculty Endowments for this academic year. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, April 30, 2007. Awards will be announced four weeks later, on May 25.

The 1804 Special Library Endowment Fund is to enable the Ohio University Libraries to achieve distinction in selected collecting areas by responding to special purchase opportunities. The Endowment Fund is not used for acquiring publications of the kind that would normally be purchased from departmental library allocations, no matter how legitimately they may be needed. Rather, Endowment monies are applied toward the purchase of collections and, in some cases, individual items of rare or otherwise extraordinary value. For more information about the fund and the application process, see our page on the 1804 Endowment Fund.

The Arts and Humanities Junior Faculty Endowment Fund makes available acquisitions funds to selected junior faculty members (tenure-track Group I faculty with probationary appointments and no more than five years of full-time service to the university) doing research in the arts and the humanities. For more information about the fund and the application process, see our page on the Arts and Humanities Junior Faculty Endowment Fund.

Audio Tour now available in Japanese

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Alden’s popular audio tour is now available in Japanese.

The tour contains about 16 minutes of audio, and if you walk the
complete tour, it will take you approximately 30 minutes. The tour is a
great way for Ohio University’s Japanese speakers to get to know the
library, so give it a try. The tour is available on the library’s iPod,
which can be checked out at the Learning Commons desk on the second
floor of Alden. This tour was translated and narrated by Kana Aoki, who
will earn her bachelor’s degree in International Studies at the end of
the quarter.
The tour can be downloaded here.
