Library Friends Ceremony to Honor Authors, Editors & Performers

Thursday, May 17th, 2007

The Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University and the Office of the Provost are sponsoring the 17th annual reception for Ohio University Authors, Editors & Performers on Monday, May 21 beginning at 3:30 p.m. The program will be held in the Baker Center Multipurpose Room (Baker 240).

“This is an annual event the Friends hold to recognize publicly and collectively the scholarly output of the faculty and staff,” states Greg Kremer, president of the Friends. “This year for the first time we are recognizing not only books and major performances but also journal articles and book chapters. By expanding our scope we will honor in a more complete way the research and creative activity of the faculty and staff.”

Kremer adds that President Roderick McDavis and Provost Kathy Krendl will make brief remarks during the ceremony. Copies of more than 40 books, numerous articles, and other items such as CDs will be on display at the reception.

“The Friends have provided an excellent opportunity to acknowledge the significant contributions our faculty and staff bring to the University’s academic environment and the community,” stated Martin Tuck, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, “as well as providing an opportunity for future collaborations as faculty and staff become more informed about what others are doing on campus.”

The event is supported by a donation from the Ohio University Credit Union. The program is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

The Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University, established in 1979, provides support for the Libraries, their collections and their operation.

Library Exhibit: Year Zero to 2006: Images and Histories from Post-Khmer Rouge

Thursday, May 10th, 2007

“Year Zero to 2006: Images and Histories from Post-Khmer Rouge” is an exhibit of text and photographs documenting the far-reaching effects of the Cambodian genocide on Cambodian society. The Cambodian Revolution (1975-1979), which claimed the lives of one in five Cambodians, is one of the most important, albeit grim, chapters in the country’s history. “Year Zero to 2006: Images and Histories from Post-Khmer Rouge” brings into sharp relief the tragedy of the Cambodian revolution and its complex aftermath.

The exhibit, which is on temporary loan, was developed by Undergraduate Summer Research Fellows Lara Finkbeiner (a junior history major at the University of Michigan), and Emma Nolan-Abrahamian (a photography major and photographer for the Michigan Daily).

“Year Zero to 2006: Images and Histories from Post-Khmer Rouge” will be on display in the Southeast Asia Collection at Ohio University Libraries from May 14 to May 30, 2007. The exhibit is hosted by Ohio University Libraries and the Center for International Studies.
