  • Code Game Opens Sept 4

    Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

We know Alden Library is confusing; why not admit it? It’s a puzzle, a maze, and a fantastic resource.

Here’s a way to beat it: Play the Code Game, have fun, and win prizes! Code game

The Code game is a series of 5 challenges through which you explore the library and earn prizes. Begin by asking for the first task at the Alden Library second floor library services desk. Solve that puzzle, return and get another one…. There are no dead ends here. Every task offers the chance to see a new corner of the library, discover a new service, or find out about another something wonderful you didn’t know we had. Successfully solve all 5 “codes” and you will be entered in a drawing for one of three grand prizes of $100. It’s that easy; it’s that much fun.

The game runs all year, but the prizes end on November 17 when we draw for the big winners. Anyone can play; but only current OU students can win. And the earlier you finish, the more opportunities you have to win: Early Bird prizes of $25 will be drawn on September 22, October 13, and October 27.
“Playing the whole game will take a little more than an hour, run you all over the library, and show you nooks and crannies and services you wouldn’t have discovered otherwise,” says Steve Steward, a member of the committee that created the game for freshman orientation activities. “We know the library is daunting for new students, and we hope they find this a fun way to get to know us.”
Regular hours during academic terms are: noon to midnight Sundays, 8 to midnight Monday through Thursday, 8-7 Friday and 10-7 Saturday. The second floor Learning Commons is open 24/5, only closing at midnight on the weekends. Students can begin the game any time the library is open.
