Common Reader Fall Festival of Events

The Cion Fall Festival of Events kicks off next Wednesday, October 21 with the first of three Common Reader Project sponsored activities.

Cion Connections in Film: Screenings of Illusions and Blue-eyed, Brown-eyed,
a two-film back-to-back mini-series
, will take place on Wednesday, October 21 from 7:10-8:30 p.m. in Alden’s Friends of the Library room on the third floor. Julie Dash directs Illusions, a 1982 film about how Hollywood filmmaking intersects with race relations (34 minutes), Blue Eyed, Jane Elliot demonstrates her blue eyed/brown eyed exercise in discrimination (30 minutes).

How to Read Cion: True Stories from Instructors & Their Classes, part of Alden Library’s Brown Bag Lunch Series, takes place Friday, October 23 from 1 – 2 p.m. in Alden’s Friends of the Library room on the third floor. Join Paul Shovlin and Wendy VanDellon for this entertaining, informative, and lively discussion. Bring your lunch – light refreshments will be served.

Zakes Mda: A Reading from and Discussion of Cion, will feature Cion’s internationally famous author and Ohio University English Professor, Zakes Mda, reading excerpts from his book and dialoguing with his audience on Tuesday, October 27 from 7 – 9 p.m. in Baker Center Theater. Refreshments will be served following Zakes’ reading and discussion at a book signing and reception just out side the theater.
