Articles in magazines and journals usually deal with a single aspect of a person’s life or career, rather than the person’s whole life, but in doing so they often get at details omitted even in book-length biographies. Listed below are a few good databases that you can use to find articles on people.

Academic Search Complete — A multi-disciplinary index of articles covering over 10,000 magazines and journals.  Click on Advanced Search, put in the person’s name (last name first), and change the drop-down box next to it to PE People.

America History and Life — Good for information about people in American and Canadian history.  Click on Advanced Search.  Enter the name in “last name first” order.  Change the drop-down box next to the search box to SU Subject.

Business Source Complete — Good for people in the business field.  Click on Advanced Search, put in the person’s name (last name first), and change the drop-down box next to it to PE People.

Historical Abstracts — Good for information about people in world history (other than Canada and the United States).  Covers 1450 A.D. forward.  Click on Advanced Search.  Enter the name in “last name first” order.  Change the drop-down box next to the search box to SU Subject.

MLA International Bibliography – Good for biographical information about authors.  Click on Advanced Search.  Enter authors name in the last name first order.  Change drop-down box next to the search box to SA Primary Subject Author.  Enter biograph* in the middle search box.
