Google iconIf you know the author’s name and exact title of a thesis or dissertation, give Google a try. Often you will be able to find the thesis or dissertation on a server somewhere.

If the thesis or dissertation you want is not available electronically or if you want a paper copy, follow these steps:

  1. Start by trying the title you need on ALICE. We rarely buy dissertations completed at other institutions, but it doesn’t hurt to try!
  2. If you don’t find it on ALICE, click on ALICE’s  button to see if anyone in the state owns the dissertation.
  3. If you’d like to try to borrow from a library outside the state, use our ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system.
  4. Copies of dissertations and theses may be acquired using ProQuest Dissertations and Theses database. Electronic copies of dissertations completed at Ohio University since 1997 are free. Otherwise, prices range from $28 for a PDF download to $59 for hardbound paper copies. The best value is usually the $38 option for the unbound paper copy which is delivered by priority mail.
