Search for Newspaper Articles on a Topic

You can search for articles in many Ohio newspapers using these article databases:

  • America’s Newspapers: dates vary for each newspaper, but many newspapers are available from the 1980s or 1990s to the present.
  • Access Newspaper Archive: this database provides access to historic editions of many local papers.
    • click Browse by Location to find out which local newspapers are covered and which dates are included.
    • you can also set a location and date when you use the Search function
  • Chronicling America: the Library of Congress has digitized some local newspapers from around the state
    • dates very by newspaper, but range from 1836 to 1922.
    • you can browse for issues in specific papers or search for articles by topic in one or more papers
  • America’s Historical Newspapers: date ranges vary, but you can find Ohio newspapers from 1901 to 1970 in this online database.
    • click on the place of publication tab to find a list of Ohio newspapers
    • the database’s search function will also let you search across papers for articles on a particular topic
