Borrowing Service: Summary of Borrowing Rules

The table below summarizes the borrowing rules for various types of patrons of the Ohio University libraries. These rules apply primarily to books (and music scores in the Music/Dance Library); there are a number of separate guidelines for special types of materials. There are also separate rules for materials borrowed from OhioLINK libraries.

Notes:

Community patrons - Residents of Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, and Washington Counties, 18 years of age or older; Ohio University alumni. Patrons of this type must register annually at the Circulation Desk and show a photo ID upon registration and renewal. Students under 18 years of age may use cards registered to their parents or guardians.

Friends of the Library - Individuals who are current members of the Friends of the Libraries of Ohio University.

Emeriti Faculty and Adminstrators & Retired Ohio University employees are granted privileges equal to active faculty and staff, except that only those retirees with emeritus status have remote access to vendor restricted databases.

Off-Campus Database Access refers to the ability to connect to "non-free" databases and electronic journals from off-campus Internet connections.
