Computers in the Libraries

Computer workstationAlden Library has more than 350 computers available for student and faculty use; most are Windows-based; Macintosh computers are available on and 1st and 2nd floors only. Most of the PCs have a standard suite of software applications already installed on them, and are connected to networked printers. Each floor also has at least one photocopy machine, which accepts VendaCards or coins.

1st floor
  • 11 PCs, near main service desk
  • 1 black-and-white printer
  • 1 coin or VendaCard photocopy machine

2nd floor (Learning Commons)
  • 98 PCs
    • 2 include specialized database software
    • 1 includes standard and large-format color scanner
  • 7 black-and-white printers
  • 1 large-format color vended printer
  • 2 coin or VendaCard photocopy machines
  • 13 Macintosh G5 multimedia workstations
3rd floor
  • Fine Arts Library
    • 32 PCs
    • 2 oversize scanners (up to 11 x 17)
    • 2 black-and-white printers
    • 1 coin or vended photocopy machine
  • Open Lab (Room 318; available for general use whenever classes are not being conducted there)
    • 22 PCs
    • 1 black-and-white printer
There is also a 20-seat restricted-access lab, Room 323, which is used for instructional sessions.
4th floor
  • 34 PCs, in Current Periodicals and Circulation areas
  • 2 black-and-white printers, 1 with vended option
  • 4 coin or vended photocopy machines
5th floor
  • Government Documents Department
    • 12 PCs, which include specialized database software
    • 1 black-and-white printer
    • 1 coin or vended photocopy machine
  • Archives & Special Collections
    • 1 PC
6th and 7th floors
  • 12 PCs, in elevator area of each floor
  • 1 black-and-white printer on each floor
  • 1 coin or vended photocopy machine on each floor
