Multimedia Center
The Multimedia Center in the Learning Commons offers ten Macintosh G5 workstations and two Windows PCs equipped with a full range of of software and hardware available for creating in print, web, and multimedia formats. There are lists of installed software for both Macintosh and Windows computers. Several of the computers are also configured with VCR/DVD/TV combos to enable import, export, and viewing of video files. The Multimedia Center is available at all hours when the Learning Commons is open. The Academic Advancement Center Lab, located on the 1st floor of the library, has 23 Macs and PCS that are equipped to handle a variety of advanced multimedia projects. The lab staff are proud of their ability to "enable people to do things with technology that they never thought they could do before." ScannersThe Multimedia Center has 12 scanners: ten of them are attached to Macintosh computers, the other two to Windows computers. The scanners can accommodate photos, negatives, or slides; attachments for negative or slide scanning may be checked out from the Technology Services desk. The Macintosh computers include ABBYY Fine Reader OCR (optical character recognition) software, which permits the transformation of scanned text into a format that can be edited in a word processor. One of the Windows computers is attached to a Microtek scanner, which allows the scanning of larger than usual sources. |
