Web Sites

100 Best Corporate Citizens

This list, developed by Business Ethics Magazine, ranks the 100 most socially responsible companies. The list measures company with the criteria such as diversity, environment, governance, community, human rights, and employee relations.

Annual RQ

"The Annual RQ is an assessment tool that captures perceptions of corporate reputations across industries, among multiple audiences, and is adaptable to countries outside the United States. The RQ provides information critical to the strategic decisions that companies make every day. " The website provides information for the 60 most-visible U.S. companies.

CorporateRegister

The CorporateRegister is a continually updated directory of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)/Sustainability and related reports from around the world. Allows searching by company for corporate responsibility reports, but this requires a free registration process. The Corporate Register published a report about Climate Awareness, which has been detailed on the Business Blog.

ClimateBiz

"The Business Resource for Climate Management is a free, Web-based resource to help companies of all sizes and sectors understand and address climate change in a way that aligns environmental responsibility with business success." Climate Biz also recently published a report called the State of Green Business.

Global Reporting Initiative

"The GRI's vision is that reporting on economic, environmental, and social performance by all organizations is as routine and comparable as financial reporting." Of particular interest is the publication "Reporting the Business Implications of Climate Change in Sustainability Reports", which can be found in the Climate Change section of the site.

GreenBiz

"GreenBiz is the leading information resource on how to align environmental responsibility with business success. We provide valuable news and resources to large and small businesses through a combination of Web sites, workshops, daily news feeds, electronic newsletters, and briefing papers. Our resources are free to all users."

Pew Center on Global Climate Change

Offers lot of information and statistics on the issue of climate change. Of particular interest is the report "Adapting to Climate Change: A Business Approach."

Responsible Shopper

"Responsible Shopper alerts the public about the social and environmental impact of major corporations, and provides opportunities for consumers and investors to vote with their dollars for change. We focus our research on companies that are subjects of consumer and shareholder action campaigns, and that have significant influence in their industry. Changing these companies could lead to significant industry-wide reform." Profiles of the companies may include corporate governance, employee relations, human rights, and more.

Company Websites

Many companies will have information on their websites. Lowe's Home Improvement Media page is a good example of this. Also, take a look at this example from the Lowe's Community page.

Mintel Reports

Mintel Reports has a report called "Green Living - US - February 2008" that could be used to measure consumer reactions to green producst.

Environment Complete

Article database that covers applicable areas of agriculture, ecosystem ecology, energy, natural resources, marine & freshwater science, geography, pollution & waste management, environmental technology, environmental law, public policy, social impacts, urban planning, and more.

IBISWorld

While IBISWorld does not contain actual reports for "green business," you will find reports such as "Hydroelectric & Renewable Power Generation in the US.".

Includes full text of many journals, as well as some books and conference papers.

World Advertising Research Center

WARC has some good articles about companies marketing green products. Simply use the WARC search box to search by keyword.

Books

ALICE has a number of books on the topic. For best results, use the subject heading "Social Responsibility of Business."
