About this Article
When exploring international market opportunities, business researchers often need to know information about regulations for importing products into different countries. There are a few resources that may contain this type of information.
Stat-USA
When you open the database, select the Globus/NTDB link on the right side. When that section of the database is open, look for Country Commercial Guides on the right side about half way down. You'll have to select your country, and then see what information is available. Look for the Investment Climate and Trade Regulations sections for the countries that you are interested in.
Exporter's Encyclopaedia
Exporter's Encyclopaedia is another excellent resource for this area. For each country the book has information concerning Key Contacts, Trade Regulations, Documentation, Transportation, and more.
Economist Intelligence Unit
The EIU Country Commerce Reports provide good information for import and export regulations. While the entire report for each country may prove very valuable, most regulations information will be in the Foreign Trade section, which will offer the following information:
- Overview
- Tariffs and import taxes
- Fundamental indicators: foreign trade
- Import restrictions
- Taxes on exports
- Fundamental indicators: chief trading partners
- Free ports, zones
- Export restrictions
- Export insurance and credit
