Fortune 500 List

Monday, April 19th, 2004

It has come to my attention that the sophomore cluster group will be using the most current Fortune 500 list. This list is in the April 5, 2004 edition of Fortune Magazine and can be found at the 4th Floor Circulation Desk. While Business Source Premier provides full-text access to Fortune, there is an emabargo period for the Fortune 500 list, so it will not be available in full-text through Business Source Premier for some time. You can however, access the full-text of previous lists through Business Source Premier.

We also have a print copy of the list at the Reference Desk on the fourth floor.

The list is available online through Lexis-Nexis. To get to the list, you will need to first find Fortune in the Sources list, which is linked at the top of the Lexis-Nexis page. Once you click on “Search this Source,” you can then limit the date to 4/5/2004, and just enter Fortune in the search box. You should get 25 results, which are the full text of the list. If you have any questions, feel free to Ask A Librarian.

Factiva Trial: Your Comments are Encouraged

Thursday, April 15th, 2004

The Libraries currently have access to Factiva.com on a trial basis. Factiva combines the Dow Jones Interactive and Reuters Business Briefing databases, offering users the latest news from these leading business resources. Coverage is from 1989 to the present. Quoting from the information sheet on this database, “Patrons gain access to a wide range of information from newspapers, newswires, industry publications, websites, company reports, and more, available from 118 countries in 22 languages including Chinese, Japanese, and Turkish.”

To try this database out, use this URL: http://trials.proquest.com/ptc?userid=606616 . On the page that comes up, enter the word welcome and then click on the Login button.

We are interested in feedback from the University community about this database. Please send your comments to Bob Politylo at politylo@ohio.edu or Kent Mulliner at mulliner@ohio.edu. Or you can simply post a comment below.

Our trial of this database ends on May 11.
