Business Research Guides

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

This quarter I have taught a number of classes on finding and using business resources. In teaching those classes, I strive to present the most useful information for the current project, as well as discuss ways to use the resources for future projects.

Unfortunately, I have a limited amount of time to demonstrate a variety of resources. As such, I am not able to point classes to all of the available sources in the area of business research. There are bound to be resources that I fail to mention that might be ideal in doing research for a particular topic.

For this reason, it is important to consult the business research guides. These guides are organized by areas of interest and will offer a good selection of print and electronic sources. Whatever your topic, I invite you to consult the Business Research Guide, the International Business Research Guide, or the Marketing Research Guide to find additional sources of information.

New Interface for Mergent Online

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

I just discovered a few days ago that Mergent Online has improved the interface in both the basic and advanced search options. The advanced search menu is a lot more intuitive to use, as there are now only three search steps, as opposed to six in the previous version.

If you have never used Mergent Online, it is a fantastic resource for global company information, annual reports, EDGAR filings, current news stories, and some industry reports. This database is particularly powerful when used to create custom reports to compare multiple companies.

If you have questions about how to use Mergent Online, please feel free to contact me.
