Finding A SWOT Analysis

Friday, November 12th, 2004

One of the best places to look for a listing of a company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats is Business Source Premier.

Once the database is open, click on the Company Profiles button in the top-right of the screen. The Company Profiles section contains Datamonitor Company Profiles. Many of these profiles will have SWOT analyses for the companies.

Unfotunately, Datamonitor does not do a SWOT analysis in every one of the company profiles. If your company has a Datamonitor Company Profile but no SWOT analysis, then you might look at similar companies. For example, if your company is General Motors, and there is no SWOT analysis for that company, then you might look at the company profile for Ford Motor Company. Basically, this assumes that companies in the same industry might have similar strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, since much of this information is based upon industry trends.

Missing Reference Books

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2004

Several business students have pointed out to me that some key resources are not where they should be on the shelves. I have looked into this matter, and have found that several books are indeed missing. As a policy, reference books do not circulate because they must be available for all students to use. Because these books are now missing, many students will be at a great disadvantage when doing their research.

I am asking that if you accidentally left the library with a reference book, or if you happen to find a missing book, please return it to the 2nd floor. No questions will be asked, but I can assure you that the reference librarians, your fellow students, and I will be grateful for your honesty.

Some of the titles include:

  • Business Spain
  • Passport Spain
  • Culturgrams —Asia

Thank you very much for your help in this matter.
