Database Access Problems

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

Update: This problem has been fixed.

We are currently experiencing problems with two of our business databases: TableBase and Business & Management Practices. Users attempting to access either of these databases will not be granted access. We are working on the problem and should have the problems resolved soon. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for your patience.

Hockey Industry Information

Wednesday, January 5th, 2005

For information about NHL Teams, such as revenues, player salaries, arena costs, etc., one of the best sources is Kagan’s the business of hockey. This book can be found at the Learing Commons Desk on the second floor. Unfortunately, the book is about three years old, but it is the most current edition that Kagan’s has published to date.

Other potential resources might include articles in Sport Discus, Business Source Premier, or Academic Search Premier. Hint: You can search all of these databases at the same time by selecting the Choose Databases tab at the top of one of the databases.

Also, Lexis-Nexis has a Sports News section that might be useful as well. Once you are logged in to Lexis, you can find the Sports News section by selecting the Guided News Search tab. On the next page, in the first drop-down box, select Arts & Sports News. Then, in the second, choose Sports News.

New Business & Economics Titles

Tuesday, January 4th, 2005

I have been a little remiss about communicating new acqusitions on a regular basis. Quite a few good books were cataloged during the month of December. You can view the list here and see if any of the books could be of interest to you. As always, if there are books that are needed for your research, feel free to contact me.

These subject headings also work well when searching for articles in Business Source Premier.
