To the faculty and students of the College of Business:

As another quarter draws to a close, I wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for a wonderful year. I have received several very nice emails from individuals, and I wanted to thank you all collectively. This year was definitely a challenge for me, since I replaced Bob Politylo and became the bibliographer for the College in August. I was up for the task, but I knew that it would be impossible to even come close to filling Bob’s shoes. I want to thank you all for making this transition easy for me, and I hope you have been well served in the process.

I have enjoyed every encounter I have had with the College’s students and faculty over the past year. One of the best things about my job is that I am always learning something new during my daily interactions with faculty and students. You all have kept me on my toes with your questions about individual research topics and student assignments, which has helped me to grow in my knowledge of business resources, trends, and terminology.

I have also enjoyed the opportunities that I have had to spend time with students in the classroom. Since August, I have had the privilege of speaking to about 40 business classes, allowing me to introduce business research skills to over 1100 students. In addition to the time spent in class with students and faculty, I have also had countless opportunities to meet with individuals and small groups. I appreciate the business that you’ve been sending my way, and I am always looking for new ways to increase my contact with students–both in and out of the classroom.

Faculty, as you take a break this summer, and as you are preparing for the next academic year, please let me know if there is anything that you need from the library. If you are thinking of adding a new research component to your syllabus and would like for students to learn how to use the most appropriate resources, just let me know. If you are starting some new research and find that you need a particular book, journal, or database, please do not hesitate to contact me. Money is tight, but I’ll try my best to accommodate requests. If you need individual help searching for articles, books, or other data sets, I’ll be glad to assist you in your research. In addition, if there is a service or resource that the library or I do not offer but should, please let me know as well. I’ll be happy to help in any way that I can, and I am open to any idea that will allow the library(and me) to further contribute to the research initiatives and student learning outcomes of the College.

Students, I hope you all have a wonderful, restful summer. For those that are graduating, I wish you the best of luck in your chosen career path. For those that have a few more years at OU, I look forward to working with you again next school year.

What is your opinion of Wal-mart? FRONTLINE looks at all sides of this issue in this PBS program. The program is online and contains text and streaming video.
