New Business Databases

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

This fall we have added two new databases to our collection. Both databases should prove to be very valuable to business cluster and MBA students alike.

Mintel Reports
Mintel Reports can be found as a Top Pick in the Marketing section of InfoTree. “Mintel offers market research reports covering US and International marketplace. Each report combines data & analysis of the competitive landscape, market-share analysis and consumer profiles. Complex demographic issues are broken into easy-to-understand sections, explaining consumer behavior and demonstrating the structure of the market.” Please note that Mintel requires users to create a personal profile before using this database. Hoover’s Online
Hoover’s can now be found as a Top Pick in both the Company Information and Industry Information sections of InfoTree. “Hoover’s, Inc., delivers comprehensive company, industry, and market intelligence that drives business growth. Our database of 12 million companies, with in-depth coverage of 40,000 of the world’s top business enterprises, is at the core of our business tools and services that customers find vital to their business operations. Hoover’s editorial staff of some 80 editors and researchers brings vital business information and knowledge to its coverage, updating the site daily to bring our visitors and subscribers the most up-to-date business information in the industry.” (excerpt from Hoover’s site) Keep in mind that our subscription is limited to Hoover’s content only and does not include other vendor content, such as the D&B Reports.

There are also a couple of other subscriptions in the works, so I’ll update you on those when more information is available. Please let me know if you have any questions about using these (or other) databases.

Doing Business In Other Countries

Monday, September 26th, 2005

If you’re doing research about how to expand a company’s operations overseas, there are a number of resources available. I’ve collected a few of the key ones to look at, and they can be found in the Biz Wiki. The articles are titled Doing Business In Another Country and Country Economic Analysis.

By all means, don’t just limit your research to the one’s listed on thoses pages. If you happen to find another really good source, feel free to add it to the Biz Wiki. Instructions for adding and editing content can be found on the Biz Wiki help pages.
